Monster Energy Kawasaki's Chad Wienen earned his first overall win of the season with two perfect motos at the fifth round of the AMA ATV Motocross Championship at Sunset Ridge MX in Walnut, Ill., this past May 3rd. This was a very significant accomplishment for Kawasaki, manufacturer that started racing only in 2007. Making this outcome even more special is that this win came at Wienen's hometown track in front of many friends and family.
Wienen’s team mate Josh Creamer barely missed his spot on the podium in fourth, after a great 3rd place finish in the first moto and having battled his way back after crashing early in the second moto, to eventually finish eighth in that one. Cody Miller of Greenville, Texas, came in 2nd for Can Am with a 5-5, while Doug Gust of Salem, Wisconsin, claimed the last spot on the podium for Suzuki, with a 4-6 in the motos. Dustin Wimmer, who was points leader going into the race had to sit this one out due to injury which moved him into second place, behind now new leader Joe Byrd. However, Byrd was unable to take advantage of this opportunity to stretch his lead up front, placing sixth in the first moto and stalling during the second, for a disappointing 19 finish in the second moto. Topping it off for the young green team, Kawasaki's Cody Gibson kept his winning streak alive with a perfect 1-1 finish in the Pro Am Production class.
Next up, is the ATV STAMPEDE NATIONAL, round 6 of the ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross Championship May 23rd and 24th at the Steel City Raceway in Delmont, Pennsylvania.
